About Watford FC

Formed in 1881, Watford FC have a long tradition of being a family club and stillboast extremely close links to the local community. A turning point in the club’s history came in the late 1970’s, when lifelong Watford supporter Sir Elton John became chairman in 1976, and appointed Graham Taylor as manager the following year.The club achieved consecutive promotions between 1977 and 1979 and reached the First Division for the first time in their history in 1982, finishing runners up to Liverpool in their debut season.
